Is it normal that shootings have stopped affecting me?

(I live in America by the way)
It just feels like with the increase in shootings around America its just getting harder to care. Examples are: Cops killing civilians and vice versa, people somehow feeling they need guns to protect themselves instead of using common sense and nobody willing to make a concentrated effort to improve things. Because of this its just getting hard to care about the shootings because I'm pretty sure I know what will be the result: Black lives matter protests, police giving speeches, more talk on the gun debate, protests of the Second Amendment and nothing really changing. Is it "normal" for me to feel this way or am I being too negative?

I'm jaded too. It's truly just the media and it's biased man-bites-dog stories that are blown way out of proportion thanks to the Internet.

Well it's easy to say that when a gun incident doesn't affect your life at all. But what if you or someone you know was hurt or killed by bullets, I'm sure that it wouldn't simply be another everyday shooting but something that would deeply impact you. Just think, all people who are affected by gun violence have friends and family who will miss them and they will never forget that day when their loved one was shot and they will never forgive the shooter. Every time a shooting occurs it kills people and also kills people mentally who are still alive physically. Every time a shooting occurs it is very real for someone, both for those who were hit and for those who knew someone who was hit.

It would affect me if someone I knew died

But when I hear it on the news now I literally do just think "oh another shooting...". There were so many last week I was actually losing count and questioning if the apparently "new" cases were ones I'd already heard about.

Don't take that to think I have no compassion for the victims, I've been vocal supporting BLM and I'm not even black. It just doesn't shock me anymore, we are that de-sensitised to it now.
