Is it normal that she is asking for financial assistance?

my former neighbor married a lady far much younger than him and he used to have endless squabbles with both the wife and even the landlord. as time went by I got used to the wife while we were still neighbors. one day I met her after they had moved house and we exchanged contact numbers and parted ways.though she never called me after our meeting, I used to call her just to say hi. one she sent me a text message requesting for some money, I had to lie to her that I was away attending some funeral far away from town but would sort her out latter. IIN?

Don't make promises you can't keep. I voted no because it's a bit strange. If she really needs it and you have the means, go for it, but MAKE SURE she signs a PROMISSORY NOTE!

You kept reaching out to her, so she felt comfortable enough to ask you. I think it's normal.

It really depends on why she's asking for money and your financial situation. In general, I don't think that it's a good idea to let your friends borrow money. It can tear a rift into the friendship, regardless if the amount was big or small, if the friend has difficulty with getting the funds to repay you back. Think carefully about this.

as per her statement, she is not dropping any hint as to weather she's gonna repay this money or not coz she's jobless but the amount is negligible.
