Is it normal that sex and this go together?
Well every time me and my girlfriend... You know.. She insisted on eating some candy or chews gum. I have no idea why she does it. But she always does.

What? Built a bridge out of a witch? Cut down a larch?
If you can't admit to what sexual act you're performing... perhaps you're not ready to be engaging in said act.
Hm.
When was the last time she's been to the dentist?
If you don't go regulary, you sometimes tend to feel "unclean" in your mouth.
That is, you don't actually have bad breath, but you are afraid so(and since you wouldn't smell it yourself, well...).
Of course, thats just a guess, but how is she acting if you just casually kiss her? Do you french-kiss even when you're not about to have sex? Does she like that, and without candys?
If not, then it may be that she's overly conscious of how her mouth tastes/smells, and "fixes" this with sweets. I know i like gargling with some mouth water before, to make sure i don't have some weird taste left if i'm being kissed, and for the same reason have some gum in my handbag.
They do that when they already have a connection with sweet things. On the side table its easy to have candy but if you give her a chocolate you'll see what happens.
After one pleasure another pleasure completes the moment, apart of give some energy back to the just lost.
Nothing wrong with it unless she doesn't know what it is and controls it a bit.
She's trying to sweeten things up.
