Is it normal that random people tell me their secrets?

In relationships with friends and family, I am always the person who listens and gives advice when things go wrong. However, I have found that strangers also have a tendency to talk to me about extremely personal things without my asking. For instance, just today a girl I have known for barely a couple of days told me that her boyfriend had raped her just recently. Also, when my room mate and I had only known each other for a month, she told me her life story and a whole bunch of personal information about her family and past boyfriend. This sort of thing happens a lot. It makes me a little uncomfortable. Is this weird?

  • also happens to me. when I ask why, people say that I just "give off a comforting vibe" or something like that. I'm a naturally quiet person, so maybe that has made me a better listener? are you quiet? do you have a lot of friends? because maybe word got around that you are a very nice person. I dunno.

It happens to a lot of us. You probably just appear to be a caring, non-judgemental person that people find easy to trust and open up to. It gets awkward, i know, but just you listening may mean a lot to others. No Pressure lol...

I think its because your one of those people who dont talk about themselves in a conversation.
Your obviously a great listener. And sometimes thats all anybody needs.

Happens to me. You may have a talent you can use in the helping fields (I.e. Counselor, social worker, therapist....).

You're the friend everyone wants to have. That's a good thing.

It happens to me alot to. People seem to sense that I won't judge but tell them what I truely think will help and make them feel better. Certain people seem better to talk to, we give off a feeling of comfort and security.

I think this is pretty normal. Happens to me too. It's because you listen without butting in and passing judgement. You are a good friend.
