Is it normal that phrases annoy me?

Certain phrases like "can't be arsed" and "to be fair" get on my nerves and make me want to punch whoever is saying them... grrrrrrrrrrr
Oh and if someone is talking really loud across the room on purpose trying to show off about something, for example when they got drunk the other night, uni, their blackberry, and some other things that no one else really cares about....

Or am I just being stupid?

You're just being stupid. Hating someone for using a phrase is an over exaggeration and a sign of anger management. Phrases are common in language and many of them express a meaning that only a few words cannot... In other words (ha), people talk the way they want to. You hating them is dumb.

A lot of people say a lot of things that they don't even realize makes them look stupid. "Like" is at the top of the list most of the time.

"I was like going to go to the party but then I like, changed my mind."

How is "like" of any value in that sentence? (Rhetorical, don't bother answering)

"At the end of the day"
    "To be honest"
    "Not being funny, but..."
    "Good times" / "Bad times"
    "Off of"
    "Burglarize"

As a Brit I can't stand the Americanism of "from the getgo" getgo has two syllables, "start" only has one. And where on earth did getgo come from, or what do these two words stuck together even mean??

It confuses me and sounds stupid!

Living in the States (as a British expat), I've got sick of the word 'gotten'...and the regional inability of Arizonans to pronounce 't' as 't' not 'd'....

    It's completely normal.

I hate the things footballers come out with. "To be fair" is one of them. Also "Like I said". I swear Alan Shearer once said, "Well, like I said, Gary, to be fair to the referee, it's as the lad said, to be fair".

You could imagine all footballers are obsessed with exposition and the application of justice. You could also imagine they're all woolly-headed numpties who'll ramble for hours without actually saying a single word which means anything at all. At least when Cantona did it, it was funny.

I never heard the "can't be arsed" one but I don't really understand why "to be fair" is annoying. It's a turn of phrase that seems to have it's purpose.

As for people showing off, I get that.
