Is it normal that people think me and my roommate are a couple?

Basically, whenever me and my opposite sex roommate are out together somewhere, people have confused us as being dating. I guess it's not the end of the world when a stranger has casually called her my girlfriend and I have to correct them but it's also come from people who really should know better. I know some do it just to mess with us because they keep doing it after I explained it but there's some people who were surprised and said we just give off that vibe. What vibe? Other than how we're two people who happen to be hanging out together, I can't see how anyone could think we're a couple and I'm not going to stop going places with my friend just because some people get the wrong idea. What can I do to shut them up?

People just have a habit of connecting dots... Even if they are not supposed to do so.

When I see a guy and a girl out together I usually assume they are a couple. I know it's bad to pass judgment and if the corrected me I would apologize immediately, but that just seems to usually be the situation.

    I don't know, pepperspray?

It's normal though. Girl + Boy = couple.

    That's it; nothing else fits.
