Is it normal that people tend to say the exact same thing...

during similar circumstances? I met a guy at work and had a short conversation with him. A week later I saw him again and he forgot he had already met me. He started off saying the exact same thing he said to me the first time. We had the exact same conversation in the same order as last time.

At home when I'm watching tv with my boyfriend sometimes he'll fall asleep so we rewatch the show later. During the show he says the same thing during the same scenes in the same way.
