Is it normal that people find me serious?

You see often when I'm around my friends or colleagues I'll crack a little sarcastic joke, but not once have they picked up on it they always take it seriously. Like at the office a colleague asked why I was 5 minutes late and I said my car broke down. He didn't find it funny. Idk what's wrong with me. Another time my mate asked me why I was down and I said I was battling serious depression and he started worrying. Am I just a serious person? I find myself quite funny and lively but idk, people take everything I say as truth.

Your sarcasm is probably just unclear or your jokes are too much of a serious matter and it might be risky for someone to take them lightly.

For example, I'd probably take anyone seriously if they said they were sturggling with depression - since it's a serious personal topic.

But otherwise, we all need that one sarcastic soul-mate that just know when we're joking, but that's hard to find. In the meantime, just make it painfully clear that you're being sarcastic.
