Is it normal that people are different on the internet?

I have noticed for a while that people who post on the internet have more insecurities than people I meet in real life. They express more anxieties, self pity and loathing, sensitivities, jealousies, social phobias and other insecurities than I would think would be normal. I'm not trying to be rude but this has been an observation I have made (not just here, but with the internet in general) and am curious if most people have low self esteem that they hide or if these people are just more likely to spend more time on the internet because they are afraid of the real world.

    There's two truths to that. One is that it might be more likely that the people who spend more time on the internet, away from others and more productive things in life might have less self-esteem which equals more insecurities, and it's also said to be true that you can reveal parts of yourself online to strangers that you could never reveal to people in real life.

    they're actually more open on Internet. They don't have to tell you that same thing face to face, as it is more difficult and hesitating.. all you have to do on Internet is burst out your feelings by writing them off,not knowing what might be the expression of the other...

    Group cohesion. Deviants rule the internet because normal people are quiet and have nothing to say. Just search up dog sex online and see.

    People show a part of themselves that they normally hide IRL. I don't. But I'm one of the few exceptions.

    More introverted, insecure people use the internet as an outlet to socialize than balanced, out-going people do.

    People you meet in real life would not tell you about their insecurities. In real life we act much before strangers because we don't want to reveal our weak sides. And don't forget that the people you meet in real life are the same people who post on the net.
