Is it normal that only 5% of the people are successful?

Ok I know everyone knows Napoleon Bonaparte, Isaac Newton, Warren Buffet, Bill gates and all those really great people who could make the world dance according to their will. Only 5% of people of the world is like that really famous. And the rest of 95% are like sheep who just sit and watches. Why can't all people be like them like really great people ? Are we in a dream ? Can we make this world a better place to live ? Is it normal ?

If everyone was exceptional we'd all be average.

We are all exceptional. We just forget how brilliant the human body and especially the brain is. That's the unfortunate part of the situation... people often don't live to their potential as human beings.

Just like a few people have mentioned, people have different definitions of success. Society wants you to think that having a high end job, being famous and having a lot of money is the only way of being successful but it most certainly isn't the only way. Success should be defined by the person so if someone's idea of success is simply learning an instrument, getting a particular job, doing some sort of self improvement, then they are successful. A lot of people are perfectly fine not being in the spotlight and enjoy quiet peaceful days while still helping out where they can.

I even remember someone saying "IIN I want to be a janitor?" People said "You can do better than that", "Don't settle for less", but if his desire was to be a janitor, he too would be successful by his own definition.

I believe if everybody was like your 5% the world would probably implode.
There have to be those to do the menial tasks too. Do you want to pick up garbage, sweep streets, clean up other people's shit?
Can you be an artist, musician, or drive an airplane? Would you want to?
Your Utopia may be a wonderful thing in your mind, but in reality it just would not work. We can't all sit around on a pink cloud and strum a harp for eternity.

It's not even 5%. It's probably more like 0.1% who have fame. Even they don't have that much influence; they are where they are because they conform to a narrow slice of the spectrum of what is possible, not because they have any special personal quality.

Fame isn't the thing to look for though. Even influence isn't. Many people who live life on their own terms are invisible to much of society.

People can be successful in their own ways. There's no requirement to become rich. It's all a matter of having different strengths and weaknesses.

Even small deeds can make the world a much better place.

Well your not measuring success correctly. Being rich and being successful are not always the same thing.

A teacher doesnt make a lot of money... but a person who has always wanted to be a teacher and finally fulfilling their dream is successful.

I just want to create art for my family friends and sometimes other people... I feel successful in this part of my life.

Someone who is overweight worked hard and lost the weight is successful.

There are people who without being wealthy do a great deal of good in this world.

Just because someone has made a lot of money, or knows how to make a lot of money, or is successful in business like Gates for example, does not make them an intrinsically better human being than a person living in say, a mud hut in Africa but happens to be doing the best they can in their own community in their own way.

You are making the mistake of equating fame and money with some kind of intrinsic worth as a human being.

Means very little. Some of the richest and most famous people in the world can also be the most miserable, lonely, depressed, suicidal etc.
