Is it normal that obama has made me ashamed to be american?

I just had the displeasure to have watched a new Obama speech last night with my parents, and I have to say I'm just tired of him. He is such a jerk. I am American but I find the rest of the world so fascinating and diverse. Many of the nations beyond my own are spectacular. But Obama is so damn proud of the US that he found ridiculous reasons to compare this country with others. In the speech he would not stop looking down upon the rest of the non-American world.

He claimed how he is sickened at the fact that there are so many big companies that aren't in America. He stated that he found it "unfortunate" that Americans who had left the country are living better lives outside the US ("I am disgusted to know some of our good people have betrayed us like this" he said).

He constantly cited the fact that non-Americans coming into the country had said that they were glad to have left their previous one. He constantly reminded the massive crowd of how "We are the country that does everything better than everybody else. And if we don't, we will have failed as a superpower. We cannot let other world powers have the spotlight. No other nation deserves what we have, otherwise the American Dream will be over."

Basically, he's saying that if for example the UK and China suddenly prospers and become superpowers (both will eventually), America has failed. Is this really what he expects us all to think of the world, as if we are the heroes and all other countries are feeble sidekicks? Only America can be perfect even though it isn't?

And then he had the cheek to say that the world has "No right to laugh at our image or doubt our incredble strength". I am personally able to laugh at my country, we all are of course, but Obama cannot see this: "One out of many, the nation the world relies on to get by, the single nation where anything is possible. To relocate to any other nation on Earth would be to throw away a dream that can come true so easily..."

I am now ashamed to be from this country; sure, it's a glorious country where one can achieve their dreams but also a country ran by a mean government that disagrees with other cultures and seeks to rake in as many people from around the world as they can so that they can convert them. In Obama's eyes, it's like this: Who needs *insert random country here* when you can have America?

Is this normal? I love the rest of the world, I want to be a nice American :(

Obama has "pulled the wool" over many Americans eyes... He is nothing more than a glorified actor. The few times he has actually tried to do anything he has failed miserably.. Look at our economy, gas prices, jobs, etc... Now he takes credit for killing BinLaden like he did all the work his damn self... Hopefully our great nation can realize what a huge mistake it was electing that jackass in the first place.. I bet y'all don't hate Bush near as much now huh??

I must admit, I'm not Obama's biggest fan, but for different reasons. Anyway, I grew up outside of the US, but I'm an american, and maybe for that reason I respect many other cultures, yet I seem to love America and living here more than most Americans who grew up there. Also, to what Obama said, how is it that just because my parents decided to raise us abroad we have betrayed the country? As I said, if anything, I feel like I'm more patriotic than the Americans who grew up there!

The UK won't be a superpower again. We've had our moment in the sun.

As for Obama, I've always been very impressed by him. Your Democrat presidents always make the rest of the world warm to America because they're always intelligent, right-thinking adverts for all that is good about your country. The Republicans, though? Hmmm.

We give the image to the rest of the world. I think living here gives you a whole different perspective. The United States destroyed the world economy with our big corporations being careless. I know most governments are corrupt to an extent, but if our government assassinated one of our best presidents, some of our best musicians because of their outspokenness and destroyed our twin towers like the evidence shows.. who can really top that? I may sound like a conspiracy theorist but honestly, the evidence won't let me think otherwise.

Obama is doing all he can from what Bush handed him, also. It's not easy being the face of this country. I respect anyone who can take on that job.

I'm with Dappled (though I'm shooting for a second 'time in the sun').

What do you want from him though? If he went and said the opposite things, Americans would go bat shit crazy.
He needs to pump America up, make it look like a paradise, compare it to 'lesser' countries because that's what most of America wants to hear. Every American I've spoken to has been ridiculously proud to be in a country where millions die from the fat on their body (or diseases caused by) while watching their kids on tv blowing up foreign families.

I think america does have the potential to be great (where you're at now isn't great, you're justice only on left in the waiting room because everyone's tired of your old jokes), right now America(ns) is headstrong, and too 'we don't need anybody.'
You cant become a supernation without acting like one. Bullying 'lesser' nations (and believing that there ARE lesser nations) won't get you there.

    I think I'm done. Aha

I am ashamed of my Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, she shames this country to no avail.
I hope one day someone shoves a rocket up her ass and blasts her off to the moon, never to return...The she couldn't fuck this fabulous country up anymore.

  • He only repeats the things his party says like the little puppet he is. It could have been anyone else that would have said it but he's the current president. It's normal that you feel that way. Your last sentence, you can still be a nice American, not because you got a retard as a leader, doesn't mean everyone has to follow and be like him.

  • that speech could be either rousing or cringe worthy, i didnt see it.
i didnt like how he was pulling on his new dog's lead he was leaning back and enjoying it , like he was skiing, this is a small thing about obama but it annoyed me cause he is a leader and should lead the way. inconsequential to some not to me
