Is it normal that my son made my husband tick like this?

My son is 17 years old. He has recently been in a bad mood. He is a good kid. He does well in school, has a black belt in 3 martial arts and never gives us any problems.
His dad told him quite unnecessarily harshly to get over his bad mood. My son just said "ok" he stayed very calm. This irritated my husband so he said "i'm being serious".
My son wa quiet for a while then said something, I think it was "alright then big man" this angered my husband even more. So he said something else. this whole cycle went on for about 10 minutes each thing my son said calmly and angered my husband even more.
My husband eventually burst and tried to hit my son. My son dodged it and struck my husband in the armpit. He then said something like "you're not a man, you're on your knees to your own creation" he then laughed at my husband. My husband hasn't been to sleep in about 3 days now. I've never seen anyone make him tick like that before ever. IIN?

    Well I think your husband was out of line to tell him to get over his bad mood instead asking him what's wrong, why are you in a bad mood? That's what a real dad would do. But I don't think it was right for your son to hit him or your husband. That was kinda funny when I read that part. He sounded like a villain in a video game. "Your on your knees to your own creation." PRICELESS!

    Tell your husband to get him when hes sleeping. Theres nothing more surprising then a solid punch in your face to interrupt your dreams. Make sure your husband has a back up weapon cause it sounds like your sons a ninja. And by my research from watching movies ninjas are hard to kill.

    Growing up is hard,especially the father son thingy is very complicated. Those confrontations sound rather mild to me, I did worse.

    Teenagers will all challenge authority at some time. Unfortunately your husband now knows who's in charge should push come to shove. I suggest he treats your son with a little more respect now.

    After all, it's you and your husband's fault for sending him to martial arts classes!!
