Is it normal that my removed mole has pus coming out of the area?

I had a mole on my chest that was starting to grow a bit, so I went to the dermatologist to have it looked at. She assured me that it looked totally normal but she wanted to take it off and have it biopsied just as a precaution. I have had a mole removed before but it was rather large and raised so it healed very quickly. This mole however was small and deep in my chest. I had it removed 5 days ago. For the first two days I kept it covered with a bandaid, but now I am leaving it open and cleaning it and putting on the antibiotic ointment they gave me at night. The area hurts a little bit to touch but mostly it's just really itchy. Also the area is red on the outside but white in the middle, which I'm guessing is pus. It doesn't look like a scab is forming yet, but my mom told me this is what happens before it scabs over. I was just wondering if this is normal in the healing process at the 5-day mark.

Have the Pepto Bismol handy just in case it's too greasy.

I'd reach for Tums first, but Pepto is a solid second.

The white in the middle very well could be what your mom said - just what an open wound looks like a few days later before the scab forms. Normally a scab would form if it were exposed to air, but since you've kept it covered with ointment and a bandaid it might have just not formed one yet. And the soreness could be just because it was a big mole that was removed, so the doctor had to take a good bit of flesh with it.

BUT, it would be best to contact your doctor to make sure because it also could be infected. TOO much soreness and redness could mean infection, especially if there really is pus there with it.

Take a selfie of the incision and e_mail it to your doctor.

Go back to your doctor. Or ask her about it over the phone. If an infection is starting, you will want to take every measure to prevent it from worsening.
