Is it normal that my pot smoking habits come in phases?

I'll smoke a bunch of weed all the time, and it'll be fun for a while but eventually I'll get bored or depressed with it and quit. Then being sober will be fun for a while but eventually I'll get bored or depressed with it and go back to being a pothead. It's an ongoing cycle.

No, not all of us do. It's "the best thing ever" for a while but after continued use it's not like how it used to be and it started causing me a plethra of problems such as anxiety, paranoia, depression, laziness, lack of motivation/ambition, psychosis and more, and some of these problems started even when it still was fun to smoke it. Not saying that happens to everyone, but that's what happened to me. APC, you yourself said you get bored and it makes you depressed after a while. How much fun is it, really? I guess if you're going to do it just don't be stupid like I was and keep it in moderation rather than binging on it all the time

        • Yea I definitely get the laziness and anxiety too, which in turn makes me bored and depressed respectively, thus why I quit for a while and the phases. But it makes music and sex so much better that it's almost worth the more adverse side-effects unless I start overdoing it. Which I usually do. :/

Weed isn't addictive trust me. I started smoking since I was 13 and from that day smoked everyday 365 times a year until the age of 23. After that I started smoking less and to the point where I don't even smoke anymore. I took a few hits from the bong last month and I can't hang anymore. It got me so high, higher than the first few times I smoked in my life. My tolerance was off the charts before and now, I feel like a newb.

No offense but if you smoked everyday for 10 years it sounds to me like you were addicted.

It's mentally addictive for sure but it's not physically addictive. Then again, even that depends on the type of person you are. If you have an addictive personality then you'll totally get addicted to weed, but that's your own fault and not the weed's I suppose.

This is normal for an addict. You supress your emotions by getting high. Just tough it out through the Down periods sober. It's the only way you will break this repetitive pattern.

Marijuana is psychologically addicting, as is food, sex, video games etc, but it isn't physically addictive.

My problem with that is that marijuana is far more pleasurable than food or video games and it makes all of those things you just mentioned along with lots of other things even better. Food, sex, and videogames don't alter your consciousness the way weed does. So I don't think you can really compare marijuana to anything else in that way, I'd say it's on a whole new level of psychological addiction

I am not sure if it is normal but I kind of do the same thing. I wouldn't worry about it too much. As long as getting high isn't affecting your productivity in your life then I don't see a problem
