Is it normal that my parents still engage in this behavior?

When I was growing up my parents were big believers in physical discipline to correct unwanted behaviors, so I got a spanking if I ever gave them any back talk or other bad behaviors. I accepted this as it was their house and their rules. I had thought, upon moving out at 27, (5 yrs ago), that this would be the end of the spankings.

Now recently I was at a family function, enjoying myself, when my cousin challenged me to a farting noise contest. Knowing what was at stake I did the best I could but ultimately it was decided that I was 2nd best. Now when my father saw me lose he was livid with shame and embarrassment and proceeded to rip my pants off and spank my hairy ass until it bleed.

Now is it normal to have this happen after trying your best to succeed but still falling short? Every contest has to have a winner and loser right?

Spare me any maturity rants, I know that many families have farting noise contests in secret and feel awkward admitting to it I just dont see any reason to not accept it.

      This really happened at a recent function over the holidays. I can understand the unusual nature of it but we usual do have farting noise contests.

Time is all telling. Perhaps it will tell a story that surprises us both, of course if there is a will there is always a way, as nugatory as that saying is. Quotidian tasks of the work day need spice to flavor lest these ministrations and duldrums put one to sleep, am I to be castigated for furnishing it? Caustic though some responses are, I feel some do warrant it. Do you not?

You're 27... that's called "assault". It is a crime. Whether or not it's a misdemeanor (punishable usually by up to a year in prison) or a felony depends on the severity of the crime and the laws in the state you live in.

You can file assault charges against him.

    Being related by blood doesn't affect the legitimacy of an assault. By law, it's still assault. The only way it would impact it is an abuse of power - the power of being someone's father and intimidating / emotionally abusing them into not reporting the crime.
