Is it normal that my parents never told me santa isn't real?

I know now obviously, but my parents never told me that Santa, the easter bunny, tooth fairy, and all those weren't real. They just let me figure it out on my own.
I was bright enough as a child so it wasn't as if it was hard to figure out. I even 'conducted experiments' ie. leaving my tooth under the pillow without telling my parents and seeing if the tooth fairy still came.
Even after they knew I knew they never mentioned it, and it wasn't until they told my brother that they breached the subject.
The only reason this came up again was because we're having some friends over for the holidays who's kids still believe in it so we have to play along.
Did anyone else's parents do this?

    SANTA ISN'T REAL?!?!

So that's just a pedophile in the santa suit at the mall?

hmm.. makes sense. I always wondered how a big fat guy got down chimneys or how he wasn't shot by police for breaking and entering.

  • My parents told me that floating dandelion fuzzy's were actually fairies and to talk to them so they would bring me toy cars at night.

I don't see the point in telling people he exists if they know for a fact he isn't real. I think maybe its a trick to get kids to behave. I mean no one is going to be bad if they think Santa will put coal in their stocking. Its sad adults lie to children. I don't see the reason for such dishonesty.

    Santa is an anagram.
