Is it normal that my parents kiss me on the lips?

Ever since I was little, my parents kissed me on the lips. The usual peck on the cheek became a peck on the lips.
As I grew older, I started to get uncomfortable and asked them to stop. My mother got mad, started saying stuff like how I didn't want to kiss them because of boys, how I don't love them anymore... To keep it short, they made me feel guilty, and I backed down.

Now I'm 17 and they still do it. Is it normal for parents to kiss their teens on the lips?

It't not weird until you asked them to stop and they got mad. I don't see anything wrong with it, except for the complete lack of respect for your personal space.

am Thai born and its very normal ... i think only Western society morality pushing could make it strange .. they are your parents and you should put up with and respect what makes them happy .... not yourself... you could make yourself happy when you moved out of their personal home, that your welcomed to now and a guest in.

I wouldn't say it's normal, it depends on how your family was raised and where you live, that would be normal, but when you say to stop and they don't, that's not normal. They should at least give you space, and understand what you actually intend to decide, since you're older.

Don't listen to the frigid idiots whose mothers never loved them. Don't take that away from your parents, be happy they love you, kiss them, and your kids one day. Strange how we live in a society where it is "ccol" to share your sex with acquaintances, but not kiss your family?

    I don't think it's that abnormal.
My boyfriends family all kiss eachother on the lips. It weirded me out at first, but then I realized they're just a really close family.
My family is a hand-shaking type of family, and definitely not a hug OR kiss on the lips kind.. But some are, and if your parents have a desire to stay close with you, I wouldn't push them away.

    Depends on your heritage

But you should try making her feel guilty about not respecting your opinion.

It's only weird because of the connotation Western society has placed on the act. In other countries, this behavior is normal upon meeting a stranger. So in looking at it that way, it's not weird at all, but if you're looking for a social perspective on the matter, make your decision on the outcome of the vote.

Yeah, my parents do the same thing. I guess I've never thought of it as weird, though. I'm in college, but I've never kissed anyone outside my family before, so it's not much of an issue for me. That said, if you're unhappy with it, just ask your parents to stop, and be firm so they can't guilt you into backing down. Parents should want the best for their children and shouldn't intentionally put them in situations that make them uncomfortable. Just explain that to your parents and they should stop.

Compared to the rest of your "average" family, no that is not normal. However, it could be normal in your household. What I mean is that it's possible that that was just the way your parents were raised. If you feel uncomfortable then be stern with them. Explain to your parents that you still love them and would kiss them but not on the lips.

I had the same problem with my mom. She would always want to comb my hair (I'm a guy by the way). Anyways, she would always say that "girls will like you better this way" but I really didn't care about girls. Finally I just told her that I can do things on my own and that I still loved her but I couldn't be her child anymore. She got upset at first but eventually realized that I couldn't be a kid forever.

The fact that she got mad is odd. My grandmother used to try to do this with me. My mother was against and it didn't last long. Don't feel guilt tripped into continuing it. Put your foot down and get away from them when you can.

I think it's weird in general. To me, a kiss on the lips, regardless if it's a peck or part of a passionate embrace. I feel that it's a sensual act. That sort of thing should be shared with someone you love.

    I think it's weird.

A kiss on the lips is a primitive human function. People use this (usually unknowingly) to determine if a person could be a mate.

So to swap spit with a family member makes it just weird.
