Is it normal that my niece used to have a crush on me as a child?

Ok so first things first. I AM NOT A PEDOPHILE!

This freaked me out about as much as it's probably freaking you guys out. I swear that when my niece was younger she had a full on crush on me. Full with unwanted cuddling and kisses on my cheek and face. It got to the point where I avoided her because it weirded me out way too much.

I honestly don't have a clue what was up with her in that stage, she wasn't even close to being a hormonal and weird pre-teen yet she bugged me out this way. Luckily it seems she's grown out of it now, reduced to only slightly excessive but family appropriate hugs.

Please tell me is it normal for a young girl?? If not what the hell??! I demand explanations!

Kids do that sometimes. To them, "love" isn't sexual. They see that grown ups form partnerships and thry emulate it in their play. You must be someone she looks up to and feels safe with.

I can understand how it could be awkward for you, though.

  • She's a naturally affectionate person who thought you were cool. It's probably as simple as that.
