Is it normal that my mother thought i was a hypochondriac?

I have had stomach problems since early childhood. I had my first surgery for a hernia when 6 weeks old. I have suffered since I can remember. I was treated first a 11 for my first ulcer. I am now 41 and have sought medical treatment my whole life in a rural country town. I am still currently under a doctors care and hope to have concrete answers soon. I have abdominal pain and diarrhea a lot. I have never had a doctor say I was a hypochondriac but my mother always called me one. My doctor thinks I have Crohn's disease. is it normal or am I a hypochondriac?
