Is it normal that my mom throws literally everything away?

I live with my parents, and my mom is obsessed with cleaning up around the house. Whenever she does clean up, it's best if you pack small items up and leave for a short while with a sufficient excuse in case she gets mad at you over the tiniest thing. When I was younger, she didn't even let me go into my room and close the door.
Recently, I was baking focaccia and I had to use yeast. I went out unknowing that my mom was going to do a deep clean. When I felt like baking a few days later, she had thrown out the extra 2 and a half yeast packets. Even worse, I think she either badly misplaced or literally threw away my prescription glasses. She then told me I had to locate them tonight or she would disown me. It's impossible, I've already scoured the house. Other cases are when she threw my dad's high school diploma out.

My mom keeps everything except stuff you'd want her to keep. Seriously, I don't know how many times she has tossed something important or valuable yet she keeps yogurt cups, 1000 bread ties, a shitload of mail, stupid knick knacks, etc. It's weird because she acts like she is 'just cleaning up' but in reality she enjoys throwing other people's things away.

My mom was like this until I was in my twenties. She was a serial buyer and loved to buy knick knacks and dust collectors, except she would maniacally clean all the time, to the point where she was losing out on life due to how OCD she was over cleaning. She hardcore mellowed out when I was in my early twenties and has been much better about actually getting rid of stuff and not buying crap to clean. I would sit down with your mom and try to have a frank, honest and respectful discussion with her. "Mom, I love that you take the initiative in our family to go through the house and keep it organized for us. There are things that I've purchased with my own money that have been thrown away, I'm sure unintentionally. How can I make your cleaning sprees easier when it comes to my stuff? I would never throw away anything of yours without talking to you first-I would appreciate the same respect. Maybe keep *your* stuff in the kitchen in a separate basket in the fridge and pantry. Make sure you're keeping your areas of the house clean and organized. If this all doesn't work, find a roommate and move the hell out!

My mom has always been the same way. Not only that, but all the so called "organizing" rarely ever accomplishes anything that its supposed to. It just shuffles around and rearranges the clutter in new and confusing ways that misplace things and make them harder to find. Sometimes my dad gets mad when my mom has accidentally thrown away something, then it turns into a stupid argument and she ends up having to dig through some trash bags to find the item

  • Great news for me! I found my glasses chucked in toolbox. Luckily, there's only a few minor scratches.

That focaccia was to die for though.

She obviously has mental health issues the total opposite of hoarding, but I don't know what you can do about it if you can't leave home yet

My grandma does the same sort of thing. A year ago she was put on anti-anxiety meds for OCD and it has improved quite a bit. Idk if this is anxiety related though.
