Is it normal that my mom makes fun of me for not having money?

I'm 19 years old, I have a black belt in Karate, and have just completed my first year of engineering at the university last May with a 2.91 GPA. Yeah I know its not great, but not terrible either. Well I've been home for the summer working part time at Sonic Drive In for a few months now, and my mom constantly just loves to bring up how much money I make (which isn't a lot), or how many hours I'm working, just to rub it in my face. The way she views it, I'm unsuccessful because I'm a 19 year old college student that can't pay his own way. Last time we talked about this my mom said that she now understood why her sister kicked her kids out at 18, pointed out that my cousin got married at 20, and said she hasn't a clue why my dad wants to continue paying for my college. I don't know what to do, and it seems like there's no way to talk any sense into her.

Your Mom sounds like a very miserable woman whose life hasn't gone her way.

It's normal to be a broke college student. In fact, it's less normal to be a well off college student. It's that special few years where you sacrifice happiness to live like shit to make a life for yourself in the future. Something that she obviously doesn't have.

Her unhappiness shouldn't be taken out on you. Tell her to go fuck herself.

your mom isn't getting the memo. it isn't the same world it was when she was 19. it simply isn't easy for a young person to get by.

How much does she make? What does she do? In all honesty, it doesn't matter. She has no right to judge how much you make, and like above said, it's not as easy today for a 19 year-old to get started. I'm working on it myself now, and i get shit from everyone over everything. Just the lady being a bitch and pointing out your flaws to make herself feel better. Don't worry about it.

Psh once you graduate and get an awesome job (and you will) you can rub it in her face. Does she even work? Anyways chin up. Your hard work will pay off.

This is definitely not normal 'mom' behavior, maybe your mother isn't as maternal as others. you should tell her that she's being a bit rude and insensitive when she brings this up, and make her see how it's affecting your relationship with her.
    good luck!

There's nothing wrong with you. It's normal to be a college student working in fast food. I'm guessing your mother never worked a day in her life. Talk to your dad about it he seems to understand what a big deal majoring in engineering is.
