Is it normal that my mom jumps to this drastic conclusion?

I left my parents' place when I was eighteen. They suck. But during a RARE attempt at reconciliation I tried telling my mother that I'm bisexual. She didn't know what it was, so I tried saying, "I'm not straight."
She says, "What the hell are you saying, do you like beating people up, you like pain? Are you into bestiality? Children? What's wrong?"
She seemed genuinely concerned but the things she was saying were just outrageous. Complete leap in logic that I was NOT capable of following. Yeah? No? Opinions?

    Normal. My parents do the same thing. They jump to ridiculous conclusions over small things, so I try not to tell them much about me.

    If your mom is an adult who is unaware of what bisexual means, when I don't believe I have ever met anyone in my life over 12 who doesn't know what that means, then her confusion about anything else should come as no suprise.

    Our parents grew up in a time when they were basically taught to see anyone that's anything other than heterosexual as a threat to society. One of my textbooks even says at one time gays were considered a greater threat to national security than communism. I don't know what that means exactly, but give your mom time to cool, then calmly explain what bisexual is. She doesn't have to like it, but at least she wont think her son is out fucking animals or kidnapping children.
