Is it normal- that my mom hates my brother for being gay?

A while ago my brother came out of the closet and started to date someone "a man" and ever since he came out everything out of her mouth is negative towars him and his boyfriend. It kind of makes me mad when I hear this stuff because thats my brother after all and sometimes she says that stuff to his face and they have a big fight and all. I try to stick up for him most of the time but then i get yelled at for speaking my beliefes on the whole situation. Please no asshole comments either.

    That's not cool..Your mom should be more accepting of her own son or at least show some respect. Talk to her about it. Good luck.

    As an openly gay man, I can say that her reaction is normal but it definitely isn't healthy.

    Just because a person doesn't like something it doesn't mean it shouldn't exist. People who are genuinely gay did not choose to be that sexual orientation. The only decision they've made in the matter is choosing to accept themselves for who they are.

    I can understand that it's not an easy thing for a mom to accept but if your mom truly loves your brother, she will accept him for who he is. The love that a person has for someone can help them to see past things like this. That doesn't mean she has to like the way your brother is but she does need to accept him for who he is.

    I recommend that the three of you sit down and have a private discussion together. Your brother can explain to your mom that this doesn't change anything about him as a person all these years and that he's still the same person he always was. While they're having a discussion you can support your brother while being the middle-person and keeping the conversation from possibly getting out of control.

    Sadly, yes, this is normal. Even if it isn't right. She's not a good person for hating her own son, but it happens all the time.
