Is it normal that my mind wakes up before my body?

Sometimes, maybe once a month, I will wake up while sleeping but my body is paralyzed.

I am aware of my surroundings, that I am laying in bed, but cannot move at all. Not even open my eyes. It is like my mind is awake but body hasn't woken up yet.

I try to jerk out of it but I can't. I just lay there and focus on my breathing. Then eventually the rest of me wakes up and I can move.

Sometimes it is very scary and I feel as if I am dying.

However, nothing is wrong with me health wise.

Is this normal. Anyone experience the same?

I guess its normal because i asked my friends when it happened to me for the first time (i seriously thought something was wrong with me!!) and many of them also said they had experienced it.

But it might not be normal if it happens so often. You should consult a doctor to be sure. Hope everything turns out to be fine!

And I think violetgrape is insane :) I've been an atheist all of my life that I can remember , and I didn't suddenly come to Jesus and have it stop. It randomly stopped.

Never happened to me, but I can imagine this would be terrifying.

Sleep paralysis is abselutely normal. It is caused when you are awake but your head is dreaming, causing you to lose control to over your muscles.

The head is still dreaming so don't be scared if you see demons or something. You are just hallucinating :)
    Good luck with your problems

Lucky, its every day for me. and prayer haven't got anything on me. I pay to the sun god ra and according to egyptian stuff, the Sun god Ra claims that your BA, or soul has only temporarly returned to the body during its midnight journey to make sure you are not in danger. I just think of it as more time to think about what I'm going to wear.

The same thing happens to me it's sleep paralysis, I had it since I was like really young and I finally looked it up and did some research and diagnosed myself. Whenever it happens just relax and you'll wake up faster.

    Sleep Paralysis.

It happens to me occasionally and scares the shit out of me. My heart stops beating and I can't breathe anymore. My chest feels heavy and I can't move. My body is in a awkward position that I can't break free from. Everyone has slowed down and though my heart has stopped beating, I can hear it thundering slowly in my ears. Sometimes, there's a shadow in the corner. It scares me and I panic, desperately trying to wake up before it's too late...

Terrifying. The shadow in the corner sounds like an hallucination. I've read about hallucinations during sleep paralysis but have not experienced it myself.

Have you heard of Astral Catalepsy? Might we be experiencing this?
