Is it normal that my lazy eye is this bad?

I have a really bad lazy eye, It looks normal for about 10 secs, then my right eye drifts inwards. But I swear this is worse, it points right into my nose, and I see double so much - then when my eye gets REALLY relaxed, i can't see throught it, because the pupil is hidden because it points in so much.
My doctor gave me some contacts, but it's so bad I actually can't reach over my eye, because it's pointing on so much.
If I strain my eyes, it just looks like a normal cross-eye though, it looks slightly to the left.
