Is it normal that my hands heat up in the snow

it seems like when ever it snows out and i go to shovel, my hands seem to get really warm rather then freezing. i thought it was a comparison thing. like my hands where so cold everything else feels hot to them. however when i went to put my cold hands on my sisters back to annoy her she asked why are your hands so warm. shouldn't they be cold not warm?
