Is it normal that my grandpa is like this?

OK... Were currently cleaning up the canal at our house and my grandfather doesn't want me to help out.

I mean he has to do all those cleaning, fixing, removing that goddamn stinking black material from the canal and has to carry them to the other side of the road. Its like, those black, stinking material weighs more than 10 kilograms.

All I want to do was to help but he refuses and prefers the help of my grandmother. He already new me since birth and he knows I'm more than capable of doing those things.

Before he tells me to do some errands and I mean harder ones and Its just surprising that he doesn't want any of my help. As far as I know, we have no arguments later.

My granddad is 65 and my grandma is 68 and I'm 18.

Grandma says he's just showing off. Right now he's doing them alone and he has to carry those 30-kilogram metals back in place and there are 11 if them; and he has fix all those tubes.

Is it normal? Its just weird... Really weird...

It sounds to me like your grandpa is trying to prove to himself and everyone else that he's still capable of hard physical work. A fear of getting older and becoming dependent on others is likely to be the cause of this. So I wouldn't take this personally at all.

He just doesn't want to grow old, and he thinks that doing physical labor will prevent him from it. Just sit down with him, tell him that you would like to help in anyway you can, and that you worry for his safety, because, let's be honest, he's no spring chicken.

He probably enjoys it or values his time being physical having something to do! It's like a project. Just let him do it! Leave him alone. You'll understand when you're his age.

My grandfather is like this, even getting on the roof. Grandma hates this, so she gets him to call my dad and uncle whenever he does stuff like this. Only thing is, it seems like he's always looking for an excuse to fix something with the roof or some other crazy dangerous thing. It's like a few times a week sometimes that he calls them and interrupts whatever they're doing to help with some hairbrained scheme that involves ladders, heavy lifting, or both.
