Is it normal that my friends are really uptight?

I have two close friends that are really uptight. One Is a UW College student And is planning on becoming a doctor, but He is against me drinking, smoking and everything else completely just because he is. He is 18 years old. My other friend doesn’t go to college and in fact he repeated half a year of high school, And he just sits around watching TV all the time as well as playing video games. However he is completely against me drinking and smoking just because he is. One time my mom bought us all alcohol so we can have a little fun and so they wouldn’t be so uptight and my TV for her and called her a bad mom and he always judges everything I do because he thinks he is morally superior to me and it makes me really mad. He is 19. This is really hard for me because I enjoy drinking, smoking and getting high, but I still have a life, I have friends, I go to college, and I have a job but currently no girlfriend. It just seems like these guys are making me feel bad for just having fun and I’m kind of sick of it. By the way I am 19 years old.

Drinking and drugs are all fun and games.....

Until you wake up at 40 and realize how far along everyone else is and you can’t possibly catch up.

Maybe your friends are future tellers... or maybe they just have the uncanny ability to see losers in their evolutionary state.

Sounds like neither of you people respect each others wishes. They shouldn't be nagging you about smoking and drinking and you shouldn't have tried to get them to drink. Go your separate ways. You're all better that way.

If you want your "friends" to respect your wishes and wants, you need to respect theirs. Just as they have no right to push their opinions on you, you have no right to demand they conform to your wishes. When you feel like engaging in smoking, drinking, etc, find others that share that desire. When you want to hang with these 2 because you like them and truly value their friendship, you should be respectful and not engage in activities they dont like. If you cannot show them that respect, then do everyone a favor and go you own separate ways, because then you will realize that smoking and drinking, and the like is more important than those friends. And thats ok. We constantly chage as we grow older.

    Much luck and happiness.

Do they bring up drinking and smoking even if you’re not doing it/ talking about it? If not then just accept that these 2 are not “partying friends” and avoid the subject. However if they’re bringing it up unprompted just to act superior I wouldn’t bother staying friends with them.

Get new friends. Why be friends with people that don’t respect you and act like they are better than you.
