Is it normal that my friend showed me her period pad?

Okay so we was gonna go swimming and she walked out the bathroom with her period pad and she says "Is it too heavy to go swimming?" .... I just kept quiet and walked away.
She was disgusting to do that and she trusts me but she goes too far!

Honestly it sounds like she was genuinely scared of being embarrassed. A short anecdote that I feel relates to this is that one time I was hanging out with some friends, two of which were girls. Anyways me and my male friends were trying to do sick dives, and we're having a good time. And then my friends and I notice that one the girls is just standing there and we could visibly see blood trickling from her leg. The other girl that was with us took her to the bathroom and then afterwards took her home. We're still good friends but I honestly can't imagine the embarrassment that she must've felt in that moment.

That's the thing about periods, as natural as they are, it's generally something that people look down upon or look at with disgust. I think you're friend was simply scared of having people notice her bleeding. If she trusted you enough to perhaps ask you this really personal question, then I don't think you were being a good friend to simply walk away and act like the whole thing never happened. Of course I don't know your side of the story, but regardless I don't think that was very nice of you. From what I hear it's an actual concern of woman to be scared of having blood bleed through their pants and I can only imagine how bad it must be when you want to go swimming in a group.

Strange, yes. But instead of just walking away you should have advised her to wear tampons or that for the sake of being hygienic and caring about the health of others, that she should wait to swim until she is completely off her period.
