Is it normal that my friend loves rednecks?

Hey guys, so I live in NY, and i've lived here since I was born. Living in NY is much different the living in the south as we all know. I'm not critiquing NASCAR, but i've never met anyone in the city who actually enjoyed watching it. One day out of no where one of my friends just randomly starts liking redneck stuff, he buys nascar jackets, toy cars, posters, he buy nascar video games, he likes chewing tobacco, and listens to ONLY redneck music.
Now I understand people like new stuff over time, but this kid was someone who always judged other people, like if you smoked weed or drank you would be considered a follower. Is this not the same? It can't be a coincidence that he likes all of this stuff out of no where. Is this normal?

I think its normal. I know a girl from Brooklyn who listens to country music. At first I thought it was weird, but then I was like... eh, whatever. She likes what she likes. I guess I just didn't expect her to like it since she always partied a lot to music like Chris Brown.

HAHA! I am from Kentucky, born and raised, and I have to say all that crap sounds as normal as an extended cab, heavy duty pickup truck outside a wal mart (lol). People change their interests throughout life based on their needs. Look up Erik Erikson's life crisis. Find out which age group your friend falls into and you will probably see, this development is normal.

Seems like he's searching for an identity. Better than joining a cult I guess.
