Is it normal that my friend detests french people?

So I have this friend who really really hates French people for no logical reason and I can't understand why. When I ask her about that, she says that she hates that stupid language with that stupid pronunciation and that they're all assholes, that they're all a bunch of bigheads who think they're superior and so on. What shocks me the most is that she says that she'll never ever ever put a foot on France, that's just too much!
I've tried to convince her that every French is different but she just wants to hate them and I can't figure out why she hates them so much that she wouldn't even visit me in France (in case I were there and I was shocked because we are close friends). So, what do you guys think?

    Americans hate the French because they're so much like them.

    Except the French have better bakeries.

      That's what I always say too. No-one seems to hate each other as much as the English and the French (God knows how much of the last millennium we've been at war). But the truth of it is that we're the most similar people on the planet.

      Given that we're next-door neighbours, I don't meet French people as often as you might imagine but every time I do, I feel they're somehow even more like me than I am.

    It's only normal to think that like that if you're an idiot who believes and reinforces stereotypes.

    For example, the British hate the French... No they don't, not all of them since I'm British and have both a French friend and a French/Canadian friend, one male and one female. I know a lot of people from different countries and they're all wonderful people.

    Of course there's going to be differences in people depending on where they're born but every person is different, in so much as they choose how to act and how to be, so no two French people are ever going to be the same.

    Your friend is just blatantly racist without reason...

      No one can possibly have a French-Canadian friend.

      They are positively looney. They don't know how to cook. And they speak Français with the silliest accent.

      They're nuts.

    Good old racism :) a lot of the comments above are based on stereotypes, i love americans and their ignorance :D french people are as normal as everyone else they just speak another language doesnt make them any different grow up people!

    You obviously know nothing about history. A lot of Americans hate France for real historical reasons. Oh and france is over hyped nowadays so I see where she's coming from. French people are nothing special.

    You know, I'm ashamed but I used to be like that. And I knew I was being racist but for some reason I just hated French people. Then it became Spanish people. But now it's all gone. Honestly, I think it's jealousy!
