Is it normal that my family spends a lot at christmas?

I'm 17, and my parents told me to write a list of what I want for Christmas and not to go over $300. I didn't go over $300 and was extremely grateful that they would do this for me beacuse I work part time and know that it's hard to get extra money after bills. My parents then went out, and bought even more presents for me which would easily add up to around $200, and my sister spent about $100 on me.(I also spent this on her, and my parents each). I have no idea what my grandparents and other family members have bought me but I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with the amount that's spent on me alone at Christmas and I'm wondering if I'm spoiled? Is this normal? Sorry this got so long

We have been programmed that way. Stand in front of a room full off kindy kids and ask them, " what is Christmas all about?"

    They will all say PRESENTS!!!!
The commercial part of Christmas is ingrained in us from the get go unfortunately.

Each person does Christmas differently. I used to think my family went a little bit crazy for Christmas, but then I realized that we just don't buy much of anything the whole rest of the year. It all just gets stockpiled for the end.

I feel really uncomfortable with the volume of presents my grandmother gets everyone each year. It's a mix of mostly crap with some expensive stuff. I'm honestly embarrassed by the excess. I never wanted my friends to know, and I don't know if I could ever bring a boyfriend into our family xmas stuff without feeling deeply ashamed. I even feel ick typing this out here and I haven't even fully explained it.

I've taken to buying charity dontions for each family group within our extended family, because I don't like the materialistic focus.

But yes, it's normal for many. I wish it were otherwise.

Donations are such a great idea, I'll definitely look into doing that next year!

My family was christian but we never celebrated Jesus birthday. We were always together and saw family though. The point is you appreciate it. I am sure your parents love you very much.

Be thankful that your family is willing to spend that amount of cash on you.

I think your spoiled but as long as you donate or make use of every gift that's what matters. Or just tell them not over spend.

My children know Christmas is Jesus's birthday and also like getting gifts.
We make sure not to forget the meaning of the day .
