Is it normal that my family acts like this?

I dont know how to start. I'm almost into college, but my parents still want to treat me like a child. Starting with them refusing to buy me a bicycle at 10, they're now refusing to let me have a decent, 2-wheeler gearless vehicle-saying that it'll be stressful for them if i go out in the traffic alone. I have been doing that since 5th, though i was almost always on foot.
Here's the idiocy. My parents are willing to shell out 2 lakhs just to get me a 4 wheeler, even though i am underage. A 2-wheeler costs less than 50k. They're also willing to pay 60k in donation to a nearby college, plus fees, just to get me in. But when it came to an institution where i could attend without any hassle, they're against it. Apparently because the fees are 18k. yearly, and that i'd have to get a vehicle to get there. I think that is better than 69k. and those other damn expenses they're bringing on themselves. What do you guys think? Is this normal?

It's their money, they decide what they buy/pay for. If they want you to be safe, they'll prefer you drive a car. If want to be able to check up on you, they'll get you in a local university.

You just sound a wee bit spoiled ;)

You could always go to a different university and apply for all sorts of funding to be independent (though I don't know the situation on that where you are from).

PS: I had to google 'lakh', I don't think it's used outside of wherever you are from.

"Minors"-i.e people below 18 do not have much rights here, and they are considered responsibility of their parent or guardian. In other words, the parent/guardian makes all the decisions till their kid reaches 18.

"You could always go to a different university and apply for all sorts of funding to be independent"

I wish i could do that.

Your parents are giving you a car, and probably paying for you to go to that college. And you're complaining because...?

You sound like a spoilt rich kid. Yeah its stupid what your parets are doing, but its their money and their choice. There are other kids in the world who would love the oportunity to go to college, let alone have a car but they have hmmm.... 0 dollars and their parents have hmmmmm.... 0 thousands in their account. So stop whining and be greatful.

Other kids would. I DO NOT. and i never said i did not want to go to college, just said no to the one my parents are suggesting. It's the Indian version of a convent filled with snobs. And i can already ride a scooter, so what's wrong with one? Me driving would be illegal, and much more expensive.

P.S. It's their money, but it's my life. I think i can make suggestions and insist that they change things without sounding like a "spoilt rich kid".

Well if you don't want to go to the college they want you to then don't. What are they going to do? And if you want a scooter then let them buy you a car then just sell it and buy a scooter. Like you said its YOUR life. I think you just need to grow a pair and stand up to them. And if you're not then like I said, just be grateful for what you're being given.

    I cannot believe this post....
I bought my first car with my first crappy paycheck from Taco Hell, I went to college and paid with the said education with previously stated crappy paychecks, if I was a child of a rich family, not sure what I would do, since I wouldnt be the same person I am now, wow I need to invent/find a time travel machine and then alter my energy to the sperm of a rich man. :-D

if you think you are old enough then earn.... if you are young to earn than you should also accept the fact that its there money and you are too young to have all what you want....
you can start saving your pocket money as thats the best way to buy things you want and are a bit useless (as taken by family)secondly you your self stated that they are kinda concerned for your safety on traffic roads..... and isn't it better for you that they are putting you in an expensive institution (as it may have better education standard than others)thats all what will profit you in future!!! not a 2 wheeler or 4 wheeler!!!

You are a child still, obviously.
If you really want that '2-wheeler' save your pocket money (or better yet - work for it) and make financial decisions on your own. Oh yeah, you're not old enough to yet!

He said, and I quote: "I'm almost into college."

That suggest an age of at least 17 or 18.
