Is it normal that my earwax smells like mildew?

Well, we moved into an apartment building and noticed mold around the vents. We had the A/C turned up on high and the condensation led to mold on the vent. The maintenance man removed the mold from the outside of the vent and changed the filter. However, I later began having a bad itch in my left ear. Something led me to smell my finger and it smelled like mildew! My toes smell like mildew too! What do I do?! THIS IS NOT A JOKE, IT'S TOO FREAKIN' EMBARRASSING TO BE A JOKE.

It's weird, but some smells can seem to linger in your sinuses. I've noticed that the smell of death is one of those smells--after burying a dead animal, I kept smelling death for days, even though I showered and changed my clothes right away. I don't know if it's psychosomatic due to unpleasant associations, or if there are still particles inside your head or what.

Clean your ear out with alcohol, that should help with the itch and the smell, and possibly kill any infection. If it's still bothering you after a week or so, it's probably worth a trip to the doctor.

First, the mold issue. It is possible that you have mold in other places in the apartment. Check in closet and cabinet corners as well as around the base boards. Mold can have ill effects on your lungs so better be safe than sorry. About your ear and feet. You may have an ear infection as you should not have any prolonged itching or funny smell. You can easily clear this up with a round of antibiotics by mouth or cortosporin ear drops. Are your feet red, the skin cracking or peeling, itchy, or painful? If so, you may have a fungus. It can be treated with over the counter creams/ointments or just ask your doctor when you see him about your ear. Over the counter preparations can soothe the symptoms but prescriptions are where you will probably have to look for a cure. If you don't have the above symptoms, I guess you might just have stinky feet :) Take what I tell you with a grain of salt though. I can only provide general information as there has been no examination. This is not medical advice. Good luck hun!
