Is it normal that my dreads are taking so long to lock fully?

Okay, I've been reading different internet blogs, expertise websites, and even visiting two different hair salons that say it takes up to a year and a half for your hair to lock fully. I am almost at my two year mark and my locks aren't completely locked.

Now granted, some of my hair is straight and some of it is kinky (I'm multiracial with confused hair LOL) so I am aware that it takes longer for straighter hair to lock. But why am I having fuzzy dreads still? I understand the roots don't lock and that part of my hair will get fuzzy, but I should not have fuzzy locks themselves. Is this normal?

  • My hair has grown down to my neck now and I palm roll my hair every other week when I wash it. There are some that are mature, but not many :(

Its quite a process but if you roll them more often they will tighten up quicker. A lot of people do it every day.

How long is your hair and are you doing anything to assist the locking? Like rubbing them between your hands? I didn't really do anything and mine locked up in a year.
