Is it normal that my daughter eats to much she is only 13

My daughter has suddenly start to eat more and more everyday. She tells me that when she comes home from school from after track she goes into the kitchen and eats until I get home. That means she eats over 1 hr. ( ex. 2 hotdogs, ramen noodles, half a pizza, hot pocket, and popcorn then she eats all of her dinner. She is not big she is 5'9 and weights about 140 and this just started recently.. Comment please(:

Jeez people are so judgmental.. Have you ever thought, she's growing? Have you ever thought of putting more healthy things in the house so she gets fuller quicker? Have you ever thought of helping her get a hobby? If she was depressed you would have noticed... Children get bored easily. It's just what happens these days :)
    This is normal.
I recommend; healthier foods and more activities she can do till you gets home :)
If you're concerned she may have depression, get her to start writing a diary :)
Honestly, I'd just ask her about it and explain that food isn't as cheap as it used to be :)

She is probably growing... When I was that age, I seriously use to get my parents money worth at a buffet. As soon as you hit around 17-18, your metabolism slows down and you eat less. She probably has a high metabolism, because she is on track also. Not something to worry about, but if you make her feel bad about eating, that could cause an eating disorder.

I really don't have any advice to offer in this situation, but you're daughter is really tall! 5'9" at 13?? She's probably just having a growth spurt or something.

She is definitely pregnant, its advisable to call a doctor or abortion specialist.

Her weight is A-ok - she's not overweight at her height.

I'd be more worried by the fact that is sounds like she is eating Pure Junk all the time.

Can't she access some healthy food at least??

She must be pregnant! Haha I'm joking. That's what my mother would say to me. I eat alooooot but am only 110lbs with the height of 5'2". People tell me all the time that my stomach is like a bottomless pitt. ^I agree with some people above. It's probably her growth spurt or perhaps at school she has more activities? You probably shouldn't worry too much.

Oh but you should probably put out some healthier food. All those preservatives, sugars, and sodium are unhealthy. Too much sugar and sodium are bad also for the brain.

Okay please take my addvice in honest consideration, When I was her age I did the exact same thing after volleyball, I am 5'10 and I probaboly wieghed about the same..I didnt even think that it could catch up to me, I was young and didnt care and my mom continued to fill the pantries with junk and I became a food junkie. Volleyball wasnt enough and by the time I was a sophmore it hit me like a ton bricks..I was 188 lbs. and was no longer the tall skinny one..just the beast. I have been working my ass off and still have about 15 more puonds to go but I wish my mom took the junk ouot and gave me a reality check to contain myself. Please, your daighter will regret it later cause it always catches up.

i think she has a bingeing problem because that's a lot of food even for a growing teen. you could see a dietician so that she has structured meals, she might not be eating the whole day and when she gets home she eats everything that isn't nailed down of which it isn't healthy. don't make a big deal out of it because she must'nt feel like there's something wrong with enjoying food and don't attack her or judge her that could end up in her hiding food for bingeing. take action now before she starts gaining weight and with it it'll follow a load of issues. goodluck

  • DOn't listen to these people saying "she's just eating". She's not "just eating" she's "overeating". These people clearly don't understand that if you let her carry on tthis way, she'll become overweight later on in life.

First off you mentioned she is 13 so it is possible she is having growing spurts. Second you said she got back from track which I will assume means she is on the run team. When you run you burn calories. Would you rather she die and not eat? Use your head this has a very simple answer. If you want her to eat better maybe have some healthier food in the house. Since if she is excersising she is probobly going to eat. Also a lot of athletes will carbo load since they burn it off anyways. Give her some healthy carbs as apposed to all that junk and pizza. I took MMA when I was younger. I was always hungry after.

My first thought was - she's not eating all day and so she's bingeing when she gets home.

If she is not giving away her lunch or lunch money to bullies then she is just growing but I do agree that you shouldn't have all that crap food in your house. If she's just eating coz she's lonely in the house it's better that she nibbles on fruit like grapes or even nuts.

I really hope you get it sorted.

Maybe she's depressed? Kids can be bullied very badly in schools. You say this is a fairly recent occurrence, so I'm guessing it's depression. Depression can come on rather sudden and The effects on appetite can be somewhat extreme. Talk to her and if she refuses to tell you. Ask her teacher or take her to a therapist. If she continues to eat at this rate, it'll cause her to gain weight. If she is being bullied then her gaining weight certainly wont help matters.

    Good luck!

does she eat because she is depressed? does she get bullied at school? could she be pregnant? prolly a good idea to talk to her about this instead of asking here.

Uhm.. I'm pretty sure she would have told her mother by now if it were any of those cases. And even if they were those cases then why would she tell her mother now?
As long as she isn't missing her periods it's pretty obvious and if she doesn't look depressed or injured she's fine.
