Is it normal that my dad yells at the tv?

My dad has a very, very annoying habit of yelling, screaming, and arguing at television programs. He mostly seems to do this with the news; occasionally sports or even fictitious drama programs. Let me make it clear that he's not mentally ill; he simply does this out of frustration and anger.

I always thought it was just a harmless habit; kind of funny, actually, until fairly recently when I gave him a sandwich that I made him and, like clockwork, President Barack Obama appeared for a State of the Union address. Did I mention that Barack Obama is easily my dad's least favorite person in the universe? You guessed it - my dad threw his sandwich at his pixel adversary. That's when I knew this has gone way too far. I didn't spend all that time to make him a sandwich, with all favorites on it, just to have him waste it by throwing it at the fucking TV. I've been considering getting him a therapist.

Can anyone here relate?

I think your reasons for posting are deceptively self-centered due to sandwich losses.

All the other things are fine but throwing the sandwich makes me think he actually thinks this is ok to do.

My late mother was this petite sophisticated society lady 95 percent of the time. Except for when she was watching football. She used to go crazy when her teams were losing. She would curse and everything. It was fucking hilarious.

  • I think a lot of dads normally yell at the TV. It is a standard lesson in dad school.

    Your dad is hilarious!

It's a lot more normal than so many things... if this is the most abnormal behavior on the part of your dad, consider yourself lucky. My dad once threw a chair across the patio during a Packer game

On another note, I wonder if people are more prone to becoming emotionally upset when it is their actual peers running the country. Being a generation or two younger makes you feel a bit more removed.

What did Obama do when he got hit by the sandwich?

Were there onions in the sandwich?

    • Nothing, really. Believe me, Bary's mere presence is enough to make my pops see red.

And no, I'm not dumb enough to put onions on his sandwich. Sounds like a damned good way to get him screaming at me too.

...@ the anonymous responder to jeebley...I'm definitely not a Barake Oblamea fan either...I used to think of Jimmy Carter of our worst president...however, since Fast and Furious, irresponsibly giving guns to Mexican drug cartels and having a number of people killed (one of which was a border patrol agent), and the handling of Benghazi, I have since concluded that Obama is the worst...at least Carter was simply incompetent...Obama is a competent destroyer and liar...However, at the questioner...it may be normal, but not necessarily good...most people say that it releases their tensions, making them feel less angry, but, usually, the exact opposite happens, they often stew over what makes them mad, just making them angrier...you may want to seek therapy for him, but I would tred that subject lightly and carefully...by the way,,,do you like Obama?? Is that why you mentioned him in your monologue??

Better the TV than you, don't you think?
As for throwing the sandwich, let him clean up his own mess and he'll soon tire of that shit.
