Is it normal that my dad thinks this about gays?

He thinks that all gays/lesbians should be put in a separate town away from the "normal,God loving" people. It saddens me that he can be so intolerant of people who are different. I never know what to say or think when he says this.

Ask him if that is what Jesus would have done.

Your dad is just bigot. Plenty of people are. Hopefully, as time goes on, less and less people will think like this.

Act naive and ask him, "What would they do there?"

Yes this is normal for those who read the bible it is agents god to be gay/lesbian. But no he should not think they should be in a different place.

I'm assuming that your father is Christian? What a load of crap - if he is he's the biggest fucking hypocrite, as they all are. I bet he goes around crapping on about what a great person he is and preaching tolerance and love and understanding of everyone when he can't even do that himself. He is the reason why I think Christianity is one of the worst religions. I know gays and lesbians who are Christian... what does he think about that? God apperently judges us, your father is not god.

What an archaic standpoint. No, it isn't normal. Gives actual "god loving people" a bad name.

'good god loving people' are usually the main cause for bad things that happen. Religious people crashed into the twin towers, priests, nuns and the pope have all abused children. Being gay doesn't mean anything really and being 'god loving' doesn't mean your a good person.

Tell him the truth about your gayness and then invite him to that separate town where he wants all gays to live in.Is that town San Francisco?

I'm sorry that people are ripping on your dad like this. My mom has an intolerant view on homosexuals because of her belief too and it's sad. You have to think of these people in terms of children, who are ignorant to the world because of their age. They cling to religion like a security blanket because they have no logic to rely on. Unfortunately, Christianity is a religion that is blind to it's own hypocrisy, making the golden rule to love your neighbor as yourself, but then confusing it's own followers by saying no homosexual will inherit the kingdom of god. Your best bet is to ignore it, like when people get aggressive about politics-the argument doesn't really matter in the end, blind faith like that can only be changed with a life altering event.

The thing that you should be happy about is that you didn't end up blindly bigoted like your father! A lot of bigoted behavior comes from people that are raised in that environment and pick up their parents beliefs.

Like Neptunian said, don't argue with them. Questioning their religion ethics and the ethics of their religious leaders is also a bit pointless, but you can strike a cord in them.

I have relatives with this same idiotic mentality and when I was younger, I'd tried to have my bit on this subject. At that age, I could have a short running debate and then have to take some time to refresh my brain. That never worked and in return I'd always get Accused for being gay. Now, I attack with more poise and hard hitting facts! There's this relative that recently became a "Christian". We've butted heads on everything from LGBT rights to how non-Christian religions are "evil" and "worthy of a trip to hell". A few times I've literally silenced this relative by presenting the truth!

A good way to know you've won a fight is if 1. The person sits there with a shocked expression or completely shuts sup.
    2. If they get angry at you and start saying anything under the sun
    3. If they tell you to shut up, get out of the room, that they've had enough or "you're going to Hell.

My point is before a fight of that sort, study up on it before hand and stick to your guns. Good Luck!

Haha, I've known people like that.
Don't try to argue with them. They are always right. Always.

Tell him you're an atheist to see what he does.

  • Unfortunately it is normal. Many people think this way but luckily there are many more who do not and are willing to stick up for equality.
