My dad seems to be lonely. He says he hasn't got a girlfriend because "It gets harder when your my age (He's 40)
After calling it quits with my second wife, I went 19 years without even one date. I had no interest in getting laid; I'd done plenty of that as a young man. I had no interest in a gal with children, even grown ones. I decided that if I couldn't find the correct person, then I'd rather be alone.
Perhaps your dad is going through something similar. At a certain point it's no longer about not being alone, but more about being very choosy and only wanting to be with the right person. He also could be afraid of being hurt again, which would surely make one much more cautious.

Being in a relationship aint always what it's cracked up to be. I've been married over 40 years, but if I came back I'd just have a load of dogs and cats for company. Women are more trouble and stress than their worth.
My mom hasn't dated since I was 10 and she kicked my dad out. Shes now 67 and she has no desire to date or have a close male friend...she says she loves the freedom and being able to do what she wants without having to check with some dude. I used to think it was a bit sad that she didn't date while I was growing up but I think the real reason she didn't was she was afraid of some guy molesting me(her daughter). Im glad that she put me first but she has become used to being alone and shes not suffering at all. Not everyone has to have a partner to be happy.
