Is it normal that my company is doing this?

Hi. I work at an advertising agency as a brand executive. I've been working here for about 7 months and believe me, it is the longest 7 months in my life. My question (s) are:

1. is it normal that my employer offered me $2000 during interview but only give me $1500 because they said on my first day "oh, just because u're under probation right now".
2. is it normal that my company is doing an event for a client and forces us to be ushers to "support the event and be a team member". The catch: u have to wear heels, makeup, and skirt because it's a "formal" event
3. is it normal that my company have yet to provide me any insurance policy?
4. is it normal that my company pays me in cash and gave me no payslip?
5. is it normal that I have to work my ass off during weekends, holidays, and even during my honeymoon without overtime pay?
6. is it normal that my company does not want to teach me to do time sheet and costing because they said, "u're just not ready yet"
7. is it normal thay I cannot claim for any meetings with client and it seems that I've wasted more money than what I get for my pay?
8. is it normal that my company doesn't give bonus but replace it with "nice meal" once a week?

I want to quit but everyone kept telling me it's not worth it because I haven't reach the "1 year experience" thing to jump jobs. Please help. I seriously feel fucked up and could not escape!

And this only covers 3% of what I hate about my company FYI

Oh.. forgot to mention, my company is a member of a big ad agency which has 43 outlets nationwide, have a huge revenue every year. My account alone brings approximately 500k per year.

Gosh. They're jerks!
Thanks

I would check the labour laws in your jurisdiction to see if any of these points are illegal. For your assistance I will apply the local laws in my jurisdiction as a guide to your points in order.

    1) Reduced pay during a probation period is legal if stated in your employment contract. However the probation period here is only 90 days.

    2) In your contract there should be a dress code stating standards established by the company. However there should be exceptions to this code if it affects your ability to perform your job eg. Health and Safely issues.

    3) With your insurances - again the probation period should state when you are eligible for coverage. Normally after the probation period. However check your employment contract to see when you are eligible.

    4) Paying in cash is legal, but by law I have a right to request legal documentation (Hard or electronic) of some kind that states my income and what taxes/deductions that is being taken out of my gross income.

    5) Overtime pay is dependent on the terms and conditions on your employment contract.

    6) I'm not too sure what you mean by "Time sheet" but I'm assuming it is the ability to clock in and clock out of work, by law you have the right to access this information (see point 4).

    7) This is dependent on the terms and conditions and could be part of the restrictions placed on you during your probation period.

    8. Same as point 7.

If I was you, I would take your employment contract and seek a professional to check if any of these points are legal. Again the points I brought is based on the labour laws in my jurisdiction. Bear in mind that the laws can be dictated on a province/state/country/type of job basis so I must emphasise that you should ask for a second opinion.

    I hope this helps.

    • Hi.
1.My company doesnt deduct my salary for taxes when they clearly need to do that.
      2. There's no prove anywhere that I'm employed, in the paper that I sign when I get my payment, it stated there as 'freelancer'
      3. I only received my offer letter 5 months after I work there stating the 'start of my probation'
      4. In my offer letter, it says that maximum of probation period is 3 months so I don't understand why I'm not being confirmed till now
      5. When I asked why I'm not yet being confirmed, it says that there's some internal issue that I shouldn't know about.

Seriously, should I really stay at this company any longer or should I wait for a year like people had adviced?

They do not have to deduct your taxes if you're freelance or independent contractor. That's YOUR responsibility to calculate and pay your taxes.

You should probably go over your contract with a lawyer so that you understand what is going on.

        • The thing is that I'm not. They hired me as a brand executive. I even asked them why did they put 'freelance' but I just never got a straight answer. Plus this is my first job so I wouldn't know any better and I think they know that since they hired 7 of my colleagues with fresh entry level and did the same to them.
I felt something is wrong when my husband started asking questions

Looks like they are in breach of your contract and potentially the tax laws in your country.

Yeah speak to other employees and find out how it went when they first started.

Do you have some place where you can get free advice? We got a place called the "Citizen advice Bureau" where we can get free advice on legal matters.

        • I dont think we have that kind of place here. In fact, my country doesn't really do lawsuits. Only politicians sue each other. I too dont want to make a big scene out of it. Its just that I really really really feel like taking my bag and just leave T_T
I just don't know if that's an okay thing to do

This is something you need to be asking your "company," not people on some dumbass website.
