Is it normal that my co-worker with asperger syndrome annoys me?

i feel guilty that I am annoyed by my co-worker who has Asperger syndrome, he is difficult for me to be around, because he is like a zombie. In five years I have worked with him, he wears the identical jeans without change every day, monotone voice, it's like he is not human

Nothing he's done so far sounds that bad. You should hate people like us because we will tell what we perceive to be truth wether it offends people or not, usually because we don't know it will offend people. You could also hate us for or lack of social skills and our obsessive nature. You could also hate us for our sensitivity. If he hasn't shown any of those things, he might not be on the spectrum. I've never met anyone on the spectrum who acts like you described, flat affect and the whole clothing thing sounds like at a bare minimum he has another disorder on top of Aspberger's, possibly not having it at all.

thats odd, most of the aspies i know (and myself) are the opposite.

I shower everyday (sometimes twice) and i cant go for more than 3 days without shaving my face. (i have a beard, but it must be neat). Its possible that he may just have several pairs of the same outfit that he changes into everyday. I tend to buy more than 1 pair of the exact same jeans.

I'm an aspie and this post doesn't offend me; some people even without disorders are annoying. Yeah it's normal to be annoyed, but you have to at least tolerate people you see every day.

Oh, I dont see anything wrong with that... then again, i guess am kind of like that myself. i also work with someone who i suspect has some kind of autism, but she is always talking about herself and i honestly dont even know how to respond, i just say hmm, yeah, and laugh or whatever. i don't mind it, i just hope she doesnt catch on that i dont really care.

  • Oh it bothers you that you have to spend some of your time with someone who isn't a cookie cutter copy of everyone else in society? That is pretty sad.

I think this is normal. A certain combination of qualities on certain people can be very annoying. There is a certain, mediocre-ness about different types of people, that just drives me bonkers. No idea why. So yeah, have a normal vote from me.

  • I don't see why that's annoying.

I have asperger's and I will admit I have met other Asperger's that even annoyed me. This was because they were overly whiny and complained constantly though.

Most of us aren't that bad. I don't know why the monotone voice would bother you though. I'm monotone and nobody has ever complained. Most the complaints I get is I don't listen to people and I get too "intense" when I get going on something.

People probably just talk about how annoying your monotone voice is behind your back.

You're lucky you're not stuck with someone with OCD like me, one two three four. Like me, one two three four. Like me, one two three four. Like me, one two three four.

That's actually quite insensitive to people who have that condition.

Don't apologize. Don't get all politically correct and weak on me. I am what I am. I hate political correctness. It makes me want to SCREAM one two three four-- enough.

Viciously hurl a few objects at said nuisance, like staplers or medium potted plants and see if he bleeds or sparks or glitches or oozes fluorescent stuff...at least you'll find out if he's human and he'll probably be out a few days. Everybody wins.

I think you should probobly just leave this poor guy alone. He cant help that he exists so no use being angry about it. You sound like a complete dick. Yeah he is weird and sits in a corner. So what? If he hurts no one leaves him alone. I really dislike people like you who just want to find reasons to pick on people. Not like he can help that hes weird or Autistic. So leave him the fuck alone. I hope you piss him off one day and he tosses a stapler at your head. You sound like you need to get smacked for being such a judgmental prick.

as someone with aspergers I would like to add that I find it difficult to find clothes I am comfortable in (a neckline in the wrong place can be like fingernails on a chalkboard for me ALL DAY!) so I often buy several identical outfits to prevent this. this lets me wear what I am comfortable in ever day while having clean clothes every day (I shower every day too. feeling "unclean" can also make me loose focus).

this may also be the case for your colleague, he may have found a type of jeans that fit and just kept on buying that one kind
