Is it normal that my brother who is 15 still sleeps with mom at night?

So my brother is always scared to sleep by himself for some reason and usually sleeps on the floor upstairs unless my dad is gone for a while and then he sleeps in the bed with her? Is it normal?

No... he should get some therapy to help him with his fear...

He cant countinue that forever... thats unhealthy.

  • I slept with my mother until I was nearly 12. In some ways, I think that has contributed to my fondness of solitude and seclusion. It was actually my father that slept on the floor for the majority of my childhood. Mother appreciated it, because as long as I was there, he wouldn't ask for sex.

      That's not normal.

      • My mother often tried to justify this by making appeals to societies in biblical times (though she didn't sell my sister to the guy that took her virginity, oddly enough), or making light of the fact that my cousins were both older than I was and were still sleeping with their mothers.

          • South Carolina, though we have family in Louisiana and throughout the Appalachians.

I'm from Texas originally and now I live in Las Vegas. When my sister and I were kids we would sleep with my mom when my dad went on Army Reserve trips, but it was not a common day to day practice.

Is this boy mentally handicapped? If not, your brother needs help and probably years of therapy and mommy is NOT helping things one bit by enabling this behavior. You need to get him out of that house and that environment immediately.

Poor guy. You should convince him to get therapy. What is he going to do when your mother (sorry to say) isn't around anymore? He might have a nervous breakdown. Therapy will help figure out how to treat his fear.

Maybe you should talk to your brother about why he thinks he is so fearful. I feel terrible for him. I am sure he would like to feel comfortable in his own home.

Does he has nightmares or night terrors or something like that?
