I think it's a self soothing thing. Even my cat does that a little sometimes. He also stretches, comforts himself into a little ball and quite little squeaky noises as he stretches.
For all I know, I do this as well. When I'm asleep, there is no telling what will happen.
Perhaps, he longs to be back in the womb. Longs to be teeth less and have his mother's tart between his small pink gums, as her milk flows down his throat.
