Is it normal that my boyfriend jokes about hitting me?

I think it's more normal to say, "I'm going to spank you" or something that's a little less violent than hitting you with a baseball bat. It was probably just an inappropriate joke that he didn't realize was inappropriate. If he has a temper or you've ever seen him do something violent, I'd be concerned.

I had a boyfriend in high-school who would "threaten" me when I did something he didn't exactly like. He'd say, "Now you're going to get it!" then tickle me until I agreed not to do the thing that he asked me not to do.

Funny to him perhaps but not funny to you. Domestic violence is no laughing matter anyways. I always joke around with my friends, but if I said something that offended them I would stop and apologize.

Don't get angry at your boyfriend so quickly. If this is sensitive you need to tell him why. Did you tell your boyfriend that you didn't like the joke because you were abused before? If not then he didn't know he was pressing on raw nerves.

If he really cares about you, then he would stop when he found out how much this worried you.

I think there's something wrong with him, especially if he thinks this is a "joke". You should break up with him, but if you do stay with him, then I strongly suggest that 1. you get witnesses. just incase something happens. 2. be aware of your surroundings 3. think ahead 4. learn self-defense. learn a actual martial art like: wushu or ninjutsu,etc. Those should at least help you if an altercation of sorts pops up and hopefully help to prevent another one coming up.
