Is it normal that my boyfriend gets so aggressive over games?

My boyfriend is 26 and he can be really aggressive when it comes to games. We've gotten in tons of arguments because of Pokemon. (I know, its ridiculous) I remember once he was telling me about super training and all I said was "Aw, that's gonna take forever." and he got really mad at me. I told him its just a game and he said "Don't tell me its just a game, I can make money playing this." Another time when he got mad at me I tried telling him again its just a game and he cut me off,: "Don't you DARE tell me its just a game again." He said that with his teeth clenched. He had been nagging me for months to get into Magic: The Gathering and today I decided to buy cards because I wanted to play. Ironically, I asked him to teach me and he said "You don't have enough cards to play, you need like 1000." and then I tried saying something else and he cut me off and he angrily said something like: "You don't have enough cards to play so I'm not going to teach you, quit trying to drag it on and on." I love him to death, we've been together for about 2 years. He's bought me many things, gone out of his way to see me, and has told me he loves me all the time. He gets so aggressive sometimes, but has never hit me. I'm hurt and confused as to why he acts like this.

You're dating a pussy that doesn't deserve titties. You should date a Viking. Vikings deserve titties.

Nay, tis no game, fair maiden. What level art thou? There may yet be some form of compatibility betwixt us, should I only know thine class and level. Thine BF soundeth as though he hast not acquired significant levels in the arts of anger management; I'll assure thee, I am a choice most superior and of higher level having many skills learned and a weapon of more robust mettle. For thine heart, fair maiden, would I gladly face the dangers posed to me by the knaves and dragons that surely block my way to you. Never fear; I shall save mine progress regularly and rest in hotels to restore mine health.

Aspergers syndrome? That could be it. He sounds like a bit of a geek though.

I think I'd stop playing games with the asshole completely. Of course, if anybody treated me like that, my feelings would quickly change from love to revulsion, anyway, so playing games together would probably be the last thing on my mind as I either pack my bags or send the cretin packing.
Have a little pride dear; it is only a game! Nobody should treat someone they "love" like that.

You should trying going out with a man, not a grown ass boy. What the fuck happened to real men ? My generation is has seemed to set a downward spiral of pussification and you cant even hardly call a man a man anymore.

He broke up with me about a month ago guys. He got a new girlfriend within 3 days of us being broken up. Looks like I was the problem...

It is very, very normal, but it something which your man should do with his other man-friends, not with his girlfriend.
You don't need this kind of rough-housing.

It's normal. A lot of people (female) will disagree because they don't like it, but the question was not if it was good, it was if it was normal. And it is. Q.E.D.

In serious comment fashion, it is normal to get angry at someone saying "its just a game" at least somewhat. Its like saying "Its just a TV show/sport/book/movie/celebrity", some people care about their hobbies. As a gamer myself, games "are" just games but they can be just as deep and competitive or more than sports, just try to watch a Super Street Fighter 4 tournament and see how hype the crowd and commentators get. There are some complex mindgames going on that you won't see unless you understand how the game works.
That said, this guy takes it overboard and is clearly allowed to treat you that way even though you are kinda trying to join in on his hobbies. You said you love him to death but I imagine you don't also love the way he rudely talks to you. Its easy for someone to get on someone's good side with declarations of love and gifts but I don't think that is worth getting yelled at over simple things. He will only act out what he is allowed to and what is put up with. If he had any fear of what may happen if he did, such as losing you, he wouldn't do it.

I agree with what others have stated, this is very childish and immature behavior.
