Is it normal that my boyfriend doesn't want sex because of his meds?

My boyfriend and I have been on Suboxone for a few months. I've noticed that in the beginning of this, he and I had sex twice. It's been months now. All I had to do before is just look at him a certain way or bend over a little and he'd be ready to go. I asked him what's going on and if he finds me attractive still, and he said yes but that the Suboxone lowers his sex drive and testosterone, and he actually feels very embarrassed about it. I personally haven't felt any changes in my drive. Once or twice when I'd start to make a move on him, he would stop me because he "feels bad" that he can't satisfy me. (He has ten fingers and a tongue but anywayyy...)

I'm pretty sure he's not up to no good because we live in the same neighborhood (weird I know) so I can pretty much look around the corner and see who's in the driveway..and he's basically a homebody. We've known eachother for fourteen years and I can usually tell the little facial giveaways for when he's lying.

Has anyone else experienced this while on Suboxone? If so, is it normal to go for months without craving sex??

I was on a different Med years ago and I stopped taking it pretty damn quick because it completely erased my libido. In my book, that is not awesome. Apparently alot of medications do that. What the fuck?? Just another reason to hate the medical industry. Grrr here take this. Feel light and floaty but never have sex again, yawn all day, get cotton mouth, tremors, moderate to severe anal discharge, blurred vision, muscle pain and or weakness, stiff joints, nausea, hives, ass cancer, dizziness, weight gain, thrush, impaired motor skills, sleepwalking/sleep murdering that you wont remember when/if you wake up, and a totally new skewed view on your life that's now fucked, but your not :(

Ugh, I despise most modern medication. Was dealing with some mild depression or something. Doctor tried to give me an antipsychotic which included among the many other side effects (2 pages worth) unwanted facial hair, phantom pregnancy, and diabetes. Dafuq are they trying to shove down our throats??

Oh my God I know. I gave up on all that nonsense a long time ago. Trying to fix a problem by giving you something that creates ten new problems then giving you something else to combat the new problems, ugh you end up far worse than you were originally.

    sounds like a side effect.

  • Yup, that might happen. I'm not familiar with this particular drug, but some of them do lower your testosteron and libido.

it happened to me at some point a few years ago, but I wasn't on drugs -just very depressed. Still functional - i went to work and everything, but when I came home from work i didn't touch my girlfriend for months.
She didn't last for too long like that.

I am not familiar with suboxone. But I did have a friend who was on depression meds and it did hurt his ability to get a rise. Is suboxone a blood thinner? That could be the problem.

    http://www.pdrhealth.com/drugs/suboxone#side-effects

"Side effects may include: constipation, headache, nausea, pain in the stomach, sweating, vomiting"

I don't see "decreased sex drive" listed here. However since the drug is used as a treatment in breaking drug addictions, it's possible that other behaviors may be affected.

If he normally was having sex when he was high - mainly if he was getting laid when his inhibitions were lower - perhaps now that he's breaking the addictions he's in better control of his actions.

Or another possibility - he's experiencing the listed side effects. i mean hell, if those are hitting him hard, it may not be surprising that he's not feeling sexy.

or it's possible that he's trying to sort his life out and romping on the bed is not a priority.

Or you could try something daring and experiment in communication with him.
