Is it normal that my boyfriend didn't get me a birthday present?

My boyfriend of 2 years didn't get me anything for my 17th birthday. And no, I'm not a materialistic person, but after being together so long, I just thought he'd get me something special. he's kind of a selfish person and doesn't do much for me to begin with. I'd be mildly ok with that if me and my family hadn't asked him to come to hawaii with us for 20 days. We're paying for his whole trip because that's just the type of people my family is. I'm honestly heartbroken. is it wrong to be upset..? I told him I was upset with the fact I didn't receive anything from him and he told me he didn't have money to buy me anything which is a lie because he work full time and lives with his parents. he has a bank account with 15k. I don't know what to do anymore. I'm so upset with him, not to mention he's very physical when he gets angry. Please help

    I know this isn't what you want to hear, but... dump him! He sounds like a cad and a domestic abuser in the making. Your love and your family's money can't fix this jerk and turn him into a nice and decent person!

    No, that isn't normal.

    I don't blame you for feeling hurt. Don't let your family pay for him. And get away from people who behave like that.

    He needs help. And leaving him may help him some, he will not like it though he may learn from that. It would be better for the "both" of you.

    What makes you stay with him? I dated a guy who never gave me anything unless it was my birthday. My current boyfriend buys me food, candy and small stuffs like that but I have to remind him of my birthday since he's forgetful.

    Your boyfriend seems like a selfish and abusive person and without knowing you I say that you deserve WAY better than this loser.

    Since everyone pretty much already answered it, (and was PC in doing so) I'm trying something new, did you physically get him anything for his birthday? Not using your family's money, your own money? And technically it's not YOU paying for him, it's your family more likely your father.

    I STILL remember my HS girlfriends birthday October 14th. So if your taking dudes that don't care about you to Hawaii take me!... At least I'll remember your birthday...

    I'd be pissed off if I had a girlfriend who didn't get me anything as a birthday present.

    Even if he is broke, your boyfriend could have made a card - or SOMETHING to celebrate your existence and express his affection toward you. What did you get him for his birthday, by the way?

    Also, you could always take me to Hawaii instead. I'll make you a card?
