Not often I find myself disagreeing with so many people, but I understand why you were upset. If it was said in an attempt to be witty, then fair enough - past girlfriends and I often teased each other, but it was always understood we didn't actually really feel that way.

You didn't say your boyfriend was kidding, so I'm guessing he wasn't. Generally we expect the people we're with to support us, love us, nurture us and what he said doesn't seem much like those things. Especially considering how it's made you feel.

It sounds like he was just trying to be playful and make a funny couch-comment. You know the type, just sitting around bored making conversation. If he really felt to compare you to shit, he would have came up with it out of the blue and would not have needed a TV show to express his thoughts. It is apparent he was just trying to make a funny comment in context of the show.

Now if you two are ever in a quiet room and he says, "you are only slightly better than what I shat this morning," then I would be worried. But in this context, it is really a non-issue.
