Is it normal that my bf has red/dark red & black earwax?

We were cleaning out our ears and his q-tip had RED, dark red, black, and orange on it and ALOT of it. I don't know how often he cleans his ears but he didn't have any recent injuries and it has always been that color-

It also depends on how deep he's going and how much he's scraping the ear canal.

The deeper you go the darker your wax is. And if you scrape too hard you may actually end up with blood on your q-tip.

It's usually just old earwax that's been sitting in there for ages. :] Nothing to worry about, he just needs to take better care of himself.

I get that when I ear candle and I haven't done it in a long time

That doesn't sound normal at all. He should see a doctor.

It is normal because older earwax is a dark red/brown/black colour. Although it could be sign of infection so it would be safer to consult your local GP/Doctor

I agree with Angel. He could be injuring himself. Colour wise, the only thing I can think of that's that colour is fresh blood and dried blood. He really should see a doctor, before he seriously damages himself. I don't know what country you're in, but in japan they have places where people go to get the ears cleaned out. Maybe, you could find one where you live? I doubt that they're just in Japan only. But please make sure he sees a doctor first.

Yeah, that's normal, that's just earwax building up, your bf just produces a lot of earwax.

Look more closely at the stuff you pull out. It may be squished ear-wigs.

  • I've never heard of that ever happening before. Maybe you should ask a health professional privately about it. They'd probably know a lot more about it than random people on this website.

Never heard of that before maybe he does drag make up on the weekends (sorry probably not the most helpful)
