Is it normal that my best friends are my cousins?

I have two girl cousins close to my age, (one a year older, and one two years younger) and the three of us girls have always loved to hang out, ever since we were like 4, 5 and 6. Now, we are 18, 19, and 20, and we still have tons of fun together. Throughout all these years, I have thought of them as my BFFs, and haven't really seen anybody else that way. In fact, all the best times I have had in my life, involved my cousins. Even today, I mean, I am fine with grabbing a coffee with a friendly classmate every now and then, but all the while, I am looking forward to being with my cousins. I get my 2 girl cousins, their 4 brothers, and my brother together, and all of us cousins drink, snack, watch movies, play games, and have an absolutely fantastic time. Best fun ever.
Now I am starting to wonder though, am I normal? Am I just too socially inept to find other friends? I have had a few, but sooner or later, they all fall by the wayside. Same with boyfriends. lol So, what do you think? Am I normal? Anyone else feel a special, unsurpassable bond with their cousins?

It's normal. I come from a very large, close-knit family and almost all of my cousins count each other among their best friends. My cousin is my closest female friend and was maid of honor at my wedding. I think people who don't come from families like that wouldn't understand, just like I don't understand people who don't or barely know their cousins.

I also grew up very close to my cousins, so i'd say i'm the same! As long as there is no drunken hooking up while your drinking that is. lolz

My best friend is my cousin too.

Others come and go, but we know and accept each others flaws. We have been bffs since birth.

Why would this not be normal? You should be glad to have such a loving family.

    • Well, sometimes when people ask who my best friend is, and I name my cousin, they're like: "she's not your friend, she's your cousin." And then I just feel pathetic...
